Compositional rules in photography are everywhere and can be created using anything and everything. One of the compositional rules I used in my pictures was in the first one, I used the rule of thirds composition. In a picture, it is "divided" into three sections; the left side, center, and the right side. With the branch, it is in the center section thus giving it the compositional rule of thirds. The artist we emulated is named David Hockney. He was born in England in 1937. He went to art school in London and then moved to Los Angeles to further pursuit photography. He does lifestyle photography, but makes them into what he called joiners which is just photo collages.
I did this project by taking pictures of things I found that was beautiful around me.

Simply Beautiful
My name is Lauren Butler, I’m from Rancho Buena Vista High School graduating class of 2017. I was enrolled in our Photo one class at the time the picture was taken. It was a great learning experience learning all aspects of the camera and how to take a picture. We were learning about portraiture at the time of the picture. I was really inspired to take a picture of my best friend for a project, and it is still one of my favorite pictures I’ve taken. This image was taken at school of my best friend. It’s a simple picture of her with her hand on her face, but it’s so beautiful. It describes her as a person; simple, yet beautiful. This is a very formal portrait taken on a Nikon D5300 with an 18-140mm lens. I did nothing to this image besides crop it 11 by 14 in Photoshop. This photo was printed on Epson Glossy Photo Paper on the Epsom P800 digital printer. I chose this magazine because I like taking these kinds of pictures and have very beautiful friends who would be perfect models for this kind of magazine. Glamour magazine has faced so many beautiful women that have done amazing things. Not everything in the magazine is completely magazine, but it all tries to empower women and give them tips and tricks to make women feel better about themselves.
I took a series of photos of one of my best friends, Sophie, and she did an amazing job at just being naturally beautiful, but also paying attention and doing what I was asking her to do. I wanted to do something silly of her because she is a very silly person, but also amazingly beautiful at the same time. I wanted to do something with her hands towards her face to kind of say "oops" The series of pictures all turned out incredible and I could've used any of the pictures taken, but I felt this one was absolutely perfect. I decided to go with a white colored font with a typical arial font because it was just so classy and made the picture look better. As for the color of the font, it needed to be a lighter color, but I didn't want anything that you couldn't really see, so I went with a white colored font. I had Sophie standing up because I wanted a more natural position and most of the magazine covers featured the models standing up. Only a few ere sitting down. I felt like standing helped Sophie look more real and not as posed as she would've looked sitting on the stool. I created this photograph by taking a photo of the glamour magazine logo from the internet at large size, and then dragged it in photoshop o top of the picture. I had to go back and adjust the size of the logo to make sure that it fit onto the picture comfortably and not too small or too big. After that I found a picture of a barcode on google and placed it onto the picture just like I did with the logo of the magazine. I then used the text tool to write my own captions. I also decided to put on the "date issue" on top of the barcode to make it seem like more of a real magazine. A strobe light is a light that gives off a VERY bright flash to light up the model and defines everything about the model. The only issue is that it provides an incredible shadow on the opposite part of the body. To get rid of it, a reflector is used to bounce the light from the strobe light onto that darkened side of the body, creating beautiful lighting all over the model. |
